Study Tour of Philosophy Students

The Department of Philosophy’s study tour took place from August 23rd, 2023 (night departure) to August 27th, 2023 (morning return). The study tour aimed to offer field exposure and practical knowledge to Philosophy students enrolled in the course units of ‘Applied Studies on Philosophical Issues and Research Visits’ (APHC 42013), ‘Human Rights: Issues and Debate’ (PHCH 32013/ PHC 32013), ‘Aesthetics’ (PHCH 31033), and ‘Ethics: Theory and Practice’ (PHCH 22013/PHC 22013).

Mr. S. Nirosan and Mr. T. Thileepan were designated as the in-charge for these course units, overseeing the study tour. The tour covered various locations in Colombo, Battulla, and Galle, providing students with practical exposure to aesthetical and ethical values.

A total of 17 students participated in the study tour, representing different levels of study. Specifically, there were 9 students from the final year, 2 students from the Level III Second Semester, 5 students from the Level III First Semester, and 1 student from the Level II Second Semester. The academic staff accompanying the students included Mr.S.Nirosan (Senior Lecturer), Mr. T. Thileepan (Lecturer), Mrs. T. Gorden (Lecturer (Prob)), and Miss. R. Ramja (Assistant Lecturer), all from the Department of Philosophy.

The study tour itinerary included visits to various philosophical and cultural sites, allowing students to observe and analyze the practical application of philosophical concepts in different contexts. The guided field visits were enriched with lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities, providing students with a well-rounded educational experience.

The study tour not only met its educational objectives but also exceeded expectations by fostering a sense of camaraderie among students and faculty. The exposure to diverse philosophical and cultural experiences has undoubtedly enriched the academic journey of the participants.
